How Does Your Garden Grow?

GARDEN2017HEAD

Helllloooooo, out there in the blog-o-sphere. I haven’t forgotten about you. I’ve been spending so much time lately trying to figure out how to streamline content that I am never able to get anything up. Things shot from the end of last summer than never made it up (seemed silly to post an end of summer garden dinner party in the middle of December).

Rather than stress about editing and posting photos, I’m trying to re-invent the blog a bit so-to-speak. And part of it is adding more smaller projects, not just recipes.

Before this post even starts, we realized we put the fence in upside down and don’t care. so bye.

An on-going project that Brett and I are just starting this year is our new and improved garden. Yes, Brett’s thumbs have turned green and we dug up a huge chunk of our yard to plant a real vegetable garden. Honestly, I think he was just tired of me dragging him to the farmers market every weekend – $$$.

March and April have been the perfect time for us to start working on our seedlings…

Ok, I have to be honest; I just kind of picked out what I wanted and Brett has been putting in all the real time and work on the project thus far, BUUUUT….I’m the one who’s going to have to figure out what to make with all this. So my work will come later…right?

Anyways, this weekend Brett was able to put in the rest of the fencing around the garden so the pesky Weimaraners would stay out and we noticed our arugula and green onions started sprouting up outside!

Arugula! Maybe I’ll get 2 salads out of this.

My raised bed from previous years will just be a herb garden this year. Today I found that my oregano, sage, rosemary and thyme (I couldn’t resist that order, sorry.) have come back! Keep an eye out this week for a follow-up recipe with some of my fresh thyme.

I hope you all will enjoy following us along on our larger gardening adventures here this year. We do not consider ourselves expert gardeners in any sense so this is an on-going hobby with a lot of trial and error. We started gardening in containers in our 3rd floor city apartment, may some day we’ll end up on some rural farm.

Here is a complete list of everything we are trying to grow this year and a map of where we plan to plant everything:

Lucid Gem Tomato
Sioux Tomato
Black Cherry Tomato
Black Vernissage Tomato
Zucchini Fordhook Squash
Shishito Pepper
Craig’s Grande Jalapeno Pepper
Cayenne Long Thin Pepper
He Shi Ko Bunching Onion
Mary Washington Asparagus
Monstrueux De Viroflay Spinach
Blue Lake Bush 274 Bean
Arugula
Basil – Genovese
Florida Market Eggplant
Cosmic Purple Carrot

Did I mention that Ro loves tomatoes?
